Adolescent Education Programme

ADOLESCENT EDUCATION PROGRAMME (AEP)

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has rolled out the AEP program from class 5-8 since 2005 and Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has rolled out the AEP since 2007 from class 9-12.

1393 Teachers have been trained since 2011-12 till 2015-16 using NACO’s AEP tool kits.

Aims:

  • Enhance knowledge level of adolescents to facilitate informed decisions with regard to Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH).
  • Strengthen life-skills for translation of knowledge into responsible actions, enabling young people to protect themselves from and to cope with risky situations they encounter in their lives and
  • Prevent new infections of HIV and AIDS among youth.

Objectives:

  • Adolescence education at schools in a sustained manner
  • Development of structured curriculum for education on ARSH
  • Integration of curriculum by every school across the country

2016-17

ADOLESCENT EDUCATION PROGRAMME (AEP)

 

In 2016-17 the training of teachers on AEP was conducted in Longleng and Phek district in collaboration with the Department of School Education. NACO’s AEP tool kits were used for the training.

PHEK:                                                                                                              

  • 103 Teachers trained.
  • 106 attended the training programme
  • Nuchiralu Nienu, Dy. District Education Officer, Phek , Smti. Nouchuloü, SDEO & Ms. Sekulu Chizo, Office Asst. were also among the participants.
  • Resources Persons were: Wetshelo Tsuha,  Sr. Specialist, D.H, Phek; Dr. Limanukshi, Jr. Specialist, DH Phek;  Mr. Kuduvu, DPO, DAPCU Phek;  Mr. Ainato Yeptho, Asst. Director, NSACS
  • Metevinuo Sakhrie, Joint Director, IEC gave the introduction of Adolescence Education Progamme & Smti. Nouchuloü, SDEO exhorted the participants.

 

LONGLENG:                                                                                                  

  • 34 Teachers trained.
  • K. Khawakhrie, Dy. District Education Officer, Longleng , Mr. G.S Rao, ToT, EBRC, Longleng & Mr. P. Champhang, ToT, EBRC, Longleng  were also among the participants.
  • Resources Persons were: Dr. Imtiwapong, DPO (RCH/UIP) Longleng; Dr. Wanou, Jr. Specialist, D.H, Longleng; Dr. Henshet Phom, Assoc. Professor, Yingli College, Longleng; Mr. Benathung Humtsoe, NSACS; Ainato Yeptho, Asst. Director, Youth Affairs, NSACS, DH&FW

 

TOPICS COVERED:                                                                                        

Importance of Life Skills Education; Growing up-adolescence & changes relating to Adolescent stage; Gender and Gender Roles & Adolescence and Sexuality; Teenage Pregnancy and its Consequences; Basic Facts: STI,HIV/AIDS; Sexual Abuse; Substance Abuse; Addressing Common Myths and Misconception; & Use of Question Box Technique.
