Blood Transfusion Service for FY 2018-19

Nagaland has 8 (eight) Blood Banks namely (a) 1(one) Major Blood Bank (MBB) in Kohima, (b) 1(one) Model Blood Bank with Blood Component Separation Unit (BCSU) in Dimapur, (c) 6 (six) District level Blood Banks (DLBB) in Mokokchung, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha, Mon and Zunheboto. Out of these, NACO Support only 3 (three) blood banks in FY 2018-19, i.e MBB in Kohima, BCSU in Dimapur and DLBB in Mokokchung.  There are 2 (two) Blood Transfusion Vans (BTV) attached to Kohima and Dimapur Blood Banks. These BTVs assist in transportation of blood from the Voluntary Blood Donation camps to the Blood Banks. The state has 3 (three) Regional Blood Transfusion Centers in Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung to monitor the Blood Banks in their respective zones. Voluntary Blood Donor Associations are formed in Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Tuensang, peren and Mon for the promotion of Voluntary Blood Donation.

The World Blood Donor Day on 14 June (Theme: “Be there for someone else” & “Slogan: Give Blood. Share Life”) and the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on 1st October (Theme: “Happiness is Donation Blood”) was observed in Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung to raise awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. Blood Donation Camps were organized to mark the days.

Nagaland has collected a total of 13318 (133.18%) units of blood during FY 2018-19 against the target of 10000 units. The total voluntary collection is 10392 (78.03%) units. The total Transfusion Transmitted Infection (TTI) was 145 units. (Please refer table above)
